The 2027 flying star chart
2027 is the Ding Wei year, in Period 9 of the Three Cycles (2024–2043). The annual star 9 Purple enters the center, and the other eight stars fly through the palaces in Lo Shu order:
| Southeast · 8 White | South · 4 Green | Southwest · 6 White |
|---|---|---|
| East · 7 Red | Center · 9 Purple | West · 2 Black |
| Northeast · 3 Jade | North · 5 Yellow | Northwest · 1 White |
Note: like the Qi Men chart on this site, this uses the traditional layout, with South at the top and East on the left, the reverse of a map.
The flying-star year runs from Li Chun (around February 4, 2027) to Li Chun 2028. Before Li Chun, the 2026 stars (1 White in the center) still apply.
What each direction traditionally means
These are the common readings in feng shui books, given for reference:
- North · 5 Yellow (Lian Zhen): traditionally the star to be most careful with, linked to accidents and illness. Avoid major digging, renovation or knocking down walls in the north this year.
- West · 2 Black (Ju Men, the sickness star): linked to health. In 2027 the West is also the Three Killings direction (for Hai, Mao and Wei years), so tradition is even more against digging there.
- Northeast · 3 Jade (Lu Cun): linked to arguments and disputes. In 2027 the Northeast is also the Year Breaker direction (Chou).
- East · 7 Red (Po Jun): linked to loss and theft. In Period 9 the 7 Red is past its time and is traditionally read as unfavorable.
- Center · 9 Purple (You Bi): the timely star of Period 9, linked to celebration, reputation and relationships. In 2027 it sits in the center of the home.
- Northwest · 1 White (Tan Lang): the rising star of Period 9, linked to people, career and helpful contacts.
- South · 4 Green (Wen Qu): the scholar star, linked to study, exams and writing.
- Southwest · 6 White (Wu Qu): linked to authority, windfalls and promotion. Tai Sui is in the Southwest (Wei) in 2027.
- Southeast · 8 White (Zuo Fu): the traditional wealth star; past its peak in Period 9 but still read as mildly favorable.

Our view
There are many traditional cures for the flying stars, such as brass objects, gourds and salt water. We don’t recommend relying on objects. Annual flying stars describe the broad energy of each direction for the year; what you can actually control is when you do things:
- If you must renovate or move furniture in a difficult direction, start on a good day and hour.
- For travel, negotiations and signing, Qi Men Dun Jia shows which hour and direction are best that day.
Flying stars change once a year and Qi Men every two hours. Use the flying stars to know what to avoid this year, then Qi Men to pick the exact day and hour.

FAQ
When do the 2027 flying stars take effect?
At the Li Chun solar term, around February 4, 2027, not on January 1 or Lunar New Year. If you live outside China, convert the Li Chun moment to your local time.
The 5 Yellow is in the North. What should I do about the north side of my home?
Tradition says to avoid major digging and renovation there this year. We don't recommend relying on objects to cure it; for work that must be done, choosing a good day and hour to start is more practical.
How are flying stars different from Qi Men Dun Jia?
Annual flying stars change once a year and describe the broad energy of each part of a home for the whole year. Qi Men Dun Jia changes every two hours and answers when to act and which direction to go. Use them together: avoid the year's difficult directions with flying stars, then pick the exact hour with Qi Men.
